Does Implantation Dip Below Coverline

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
how soon after an implantation dip should I test?
My average post-ovulation temp was 97.5. I had a nice dip yesterday below the coverline at 6dpo. Today, it shot up to 97.71, and good .2 higher than prior O temps. I took an ept at 4pm which was a BFN. When would I get a positive if it was implantation? Is the day after the dip too soon?

    • ANSWER:
I would wait until your temp stays up for 3 or 4 days. I've seen women get positive pregnancy tests at 9dpo, but it's not common. I got mine at 12dpo after getting a BFN at 10dpo. Just brace yourself for a possible false negative if you get another one. It takes a couple days even with the most sensitive home pregnancy tests to get enough HCG in your urine to be detectable. Good luck! I didn't get an implantation dip, but my temp kept going up and was at 98.5 the day I got my BFP. I stopped temping at 14dpo because I was driving myself nuts! Each woman's temp is different though. Baby dust and good luck!

  2. QUESTION:

    • ANSWER:

and I heard that The coverline is really just a guide and doesn't mean much.

  4. QUESTION:
How long does an implantation dip last?
In the luteal phase my temp dropped from 97.9 to 97.2 and stayed low for 6 days then returned to 97.7. Is this an estrogen surge or implantation?

    • ANSWER:
An implantation dip, if you have one, should only be a day. It is not normal for your temp to drop below coverline during the luteal phase for 6 days.

A look at your entire chart for the month would be more helpful to see what's going on.

  5. QUESTION:
I am 10 days past ovulation but today, my temperature dropped. Does that mean that I am not pregnant?
My temperature has been above my coverline since my possible ovulation day. Today, it dropped below my coverline. Does that mean that I am not pregnant?

    • ANSWER:
Could actually be a great sign! Providing it goes up again tomorrow you may have had an "implantation dip"- a temporary dip in temps when a fertilised embryo implants into the uterus. If your temp goes back up tomorrow then this is extremely promising.

The nasty, evil-twin like flip side to this though is that your progesterone is dropping, and you're likely to get your period in the next day or so. However if your luteal phase is usually longer than 10-12 days then it's unlikely to be that.

The third option of course is that you slept with your mouth open/ kicked blankets off/ had to get up in night to pee etc which can all affect your temp. So try not to draw too much into a single temp, it could be a very positive sign, a negative one, or actually not mean anything at all!

GL and hoping you get your BFP!
